Morgan Mohlala Foundation Accelerates Support for Small Businesses Across Limpopo and Beyond
Polokwane, 9 May 2025 – The newly launched Morgan Mohlala Foundation is rapidly making a mark in the small business landscape, providing critical financial and operational support to township entrepreneurs, women-led SMMEs, and youth start-ups across Limpopo province and farther afield. Built on the lived experience of its Chief Patron, Morgan Mohlala—himself a former small business owner turned successful mining entrepreneur—the Foundation is designed to help others follow the same trajectory. “We provide access to seed funding, mentorship, and the right networks so small enterprises can grow, create jobs, and build sustainable futures,” says Mohlala. At its grand launch at Meropa Casino, Mohlala announced multiple initiatives: • Funding support: Over a R10 000 grant was awarded to township business owner Bridget Moropane; several other entrepreneurs have received start-up capital and equipment to date (citizen.co.za). • Flexible in-kind resources: When local cyclists from the Gauta BMX club faced travel and logistical hurdles, Mohlala personally donated R30 000 to support their Cape Town tour . • Community infrastructure commitments: The Foundation pledged to finish a family home in Ga Mathabathe Makgoba, and plans are underway to build a new access road linking Shakung and Thokwane villages (limpopochronicle.co.za). Since launch, the Foundation has already funded numerous small enterprises spanning agribusiness, hospitality, transport, and digital services. Beneficiaries report notable business growth, new job creation, and stronger community ties—real-world proof of what can happen when entrepreneurs receive the right support. The Foundation’s goal is clear: support black and women owned SMMEs to grow, become self sufficient, and generate employment. “[We] aim to assist black owned and black women owned SMMEs to grow and become financially and operationally independent,” affirm the Foundation website’s mission statement (iol.co.za).
